Q1 Visa Requirements

Introduction

Q1 visa is issued to those who are family members of Chinese citizens or of foreigners with Chinese permanent residence and intend to go to China for family reunion, or to those who intend to go to China for the purpose of foster care. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days.

"Family members" refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.


Application Materials

1. Passport

Original passport with at least one blank visa page and valid for at least 6 months.

2. Passport copy

Photocopies of data and photo pages of the passport.

3. Application form

One completely filled Visa Application Form(V. 2013) . Please fill in with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.

4. Photo

One photo which meets the specific requirements

5. Proof of legal status of non-Australian

Non-Australian applicant should have legal status in Australia and a copy of current status proof, such as VEVO, ImmiCard or visa should be submitted.

6. Your last passport

If you are 16 years old or more and your passport was issued after the 01/01/2015, your last passport, regardless of its nationality, should also be submitted.

7. Previous Chinese passport or Chinese visa

When applying for Chinese visa with a new passport, applicant who used to be of Chinese citizenship should submit the original and a copy of data page of the last Chinese passport, or a copy of previous Chinese visa on the previous foreign passport.

If the name on the current passport differs from that on the previous passport, an official document of name change should also be submitted.

8. Q-1 visa for family reunion:

1) Invitation letter

An invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China.

2) ID or passport of inviter

One photocopy of ID card of the Chinese inviter or foreign passport and permanent residence permit of the Foreign inviter.

3) Proof of relationship

Original and photocopy of certificate of relationship between applicant and inviter, such as marriage certificate, birth certificate, or certificate of kinship issued by or legalized by government agencies.

9. Q-1 visa for foster care:

1) Foster documents

Foster entrustment or care power of attorney of foster, which should be notarized or legalized by Chinese Embassies or Consulate-General.

2) Passport of consignor

Original and photocopy of the consignor's passport(s).

3) Proof of relationship

Original and photocopy of certificate of relationship between applicant and inviter, such as marriage certificate, birth certificate, or certificate of kinship issued by or legalized by government agencies.

4) Letter of consent on foster care

One letter of consent on foster care issued by the trustee living in China.

5) Photocopy of ID card of the Trustee

6) Proof of residence of parents

If either of the parents of the child is of Chinese nationality, a photocopy of the certificate indicating the permanent residence status abroad of the parent(s) when the child was born is required.


Special Reminders

1. Visa Application Service Centre

Applicant holding ordinary passport must submit visa applications to the Chinese Visa Application Service Centers located in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth or Brisbane according to their service areas, but not directly to the Chinese Embassy or Consulates-General in Australia.

2. Invitation letter

The invitation letter should contain:

a) Information on the applicant, including full name, gender, date of birth, etc.

b) Information on the visit, including purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, intended duration of residence, relations between the applicant and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures.

c) Information on the inviting individual, including name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of legal representative or the inviting individual, etc.

The invitation letter may be in the form of fax, photocopy or computer printout, but the applicants should bear all the responsibilities aroused and the original invitation letter should also be submitted if requested by consular officers.

3. Additional materials and interview

Other supplementary materials should be provided or an interview should be accepted if requested by consular officers.

4. Consular officers decide

Consular officers are authorized to decide whether or not to issue a visa and its validity, duration of stay and number of entries.

5. Pickup date delay

On a case by case basis, express or rush services may not be available and the processing time may be longer than 4 regular working days.

6. Residence permit

Holders of Q-1 Visa shall apply for foreigners' residence permits from the exit/entry administrations of local public security organs within 30 days from the date of entry.
